Dr Johnson's House

London, Great Britain

Dr. Samuel Johnson, a celebrated 18th-century literary figure, is renowned for creating the extensive English Dictionary of 1755. In addition to this monumental work, he was a prolific writer, producing numerous poems, essays, and novels. A small, independent museum dedicated to his life and work offers visitors a glimpse into the past, showcasing historic interiors, paintings, prints, and personal belongings that recreate the atmosphere of his residency from 1748 to 1759.

A Historic Gem

Constructed in 1700, the building that houses Dr. Johnson's museum stands as a rare example of its kind in the area. It remarkably survived the heavy bombings of World War II, known as the Blitz, and today is meticulously maintained. The museum's preservation allows visitors to step back in time and experience the environment in which Dr. Johnson lived and worked.
