Seven Dials
Seven Dials from Monmouth Street on a fine day in June. The original sundial column was built in 1694 but was later removed. This replica dates from 1988–89 and was unveiled by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands during a visit to commemorate the tercentenary of the reign of William III and Mary II, during which the area was developed.
Building scheme of Thomas Neale (1641-1699). Column designed by Edward Pierce in 1693-4, removed in 1773. The Seven Dials Trust restored the column in 1984 and commissioned a dial designed by Caroline Webb, with mathematics by Gordon Taylor.
