The Bedroom of William Burges, The Tower House, Kensington.
A bed made by William Burges in 1867, which he used as his own bed until his death in 1881. There are paintings of his dogs, Midge and Bogie, at the foot of the bed, and on the headboard, a painting by Henry Holiday of Sleeping Beauty. It is on display at The Higgins museum and gallery in Bedford.
The decanter, created in 1865, features glass and parcel-gilt silver, adorned with rock crystal, malachite, mother-of-pearl, semi-precious stones, intaglios, and ancient coins. Designed by architect William Burges (1827-1881), the piece reflects inspiration from the arts of China, Assyria, ancient Greece and Rome, and medieval Europe. This decanter was made to accompany a drinking cup ordered by merchant James Nicholson in 1863, with the cup now displayed in the Silver Galleries of the Victoria and Albert Museum. The decanter was ordered by Nicholson through Richard A. Green, who likely supplied the decorative embellishments, while the silversmith Josiah Mendelson crafted it. A bill reveals that Green was paid £48 6s 8d for the decanter and an additional 8s 6d for a case. This photo was taken as part of Britain Loves Wikipedia in February 2010 by Iza Bella.

The Tower House

London, Great Britain

The Tower House, a striking private residence, can only be admired from the street. This architectural marvel was designed and built in a distinctive French neo-Gothic style by the renowned William Burges. Its most captivating feature is the elegant cone-roofed tower that crowns the structure.

Famous Ownership

Adding to its allure, the house has been owned by legendary guitarist Jimmy Page since 1972, when he purchased it from actor Richard Harris. This connection to notable figures in the arts adds a layer of intrigue to the already fascinating history of The Tower House.
