Example of Boulle Marquetry from the Wallace Collection, London. Boulle Marquetry furniture was made by André-Charles Boulle (1642–1732) and later his sons. This type of marquetry involves inlaying tortoiseshell in patterns cut out of brass (or the opposite) and was named after André-Charles Boulle, a cabinet maker who made it popular in the 17th century.
This magnificent twelve-light chandelier, like a smaller nine-light chandelier also in the Wallace Collection, was made by Caffiéri, probably assisted by his elder son Philippe Caffiéri (1714-1774).

From 1776 to 1779, Sèvres worked on their most challenging commission, a service for 60 place settings which encompassed 797 pieces, ordered by Catherine II of Russia. Four of the ten ice-cream coolers and two of the eight wine-bottle coolers are now housed at the Wallace Collection.
This spectacular piece is the last and most elaborate of three ship-shaped vase models introduced during the 1750s.
