The Theatrum Botanicum at night for the 30th anniversary of the Fondation Cartier for Contemporary Art: The garden of the Fondation Cartier for Contemporary Art is neither an English park, nor a French garden, nor even a sculpture park, but a work commissioned from the artist Lothar Baumgarten. Its name, Theatrum Botanicum, is borrowed from the books in which monks inventoried medicinal and aromatic plants in the Middle Ages. In designing this garden, Lothar Baumgarten created a harmony of measurements and proportions between Jean Nouvel's building (1994) and the old wall that encloses the park and still echoes the walks of Chateaubriand, who once lived here.
